Hauntings at Hoosac Tunnel

Hoosac Tunnel is believed to be haunted by workers who have perished during the construction of the tunnel. The most widely known haunting of Hoosac Tunnel is the ghostly sighting of the 13 men who perished in the tunnel during an explosion in October of 1867. Days after the incident, villagers living nearby would report seeing ghosts of miners walking through the mountains. The apparitions would appear and disappear in flashes, leaving no sound or footprints.

History of Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop

The Lafitte’s Blacksmith shop is believed to be built in the 1720s by Nicolas Touze before the Spanish Colonial period (1762 – 1801), where the western basin of the Mississippi River and New Orleans was ruled by the Viceroyalty of New Spain. Due to the lack of documentation, little is known about the building and its use in the 18th and 19th century. That said, it is one of few historical structures that have survived the devastating Great New Orleans Fire in 1788 and 1794.

Since July 2014, a new Bryce Hospital operates on the former site of the Partlow Developmental Center located near the intersection of Hellen Keller and University Boulevard. The new 260,000-square-foot hospital features 268 beds and an array of amenities including dental clinics, a fitness center, library, chapel and post office.

Haunted Room 318 at Green Park Inn, Blowing Rock

Room 318 in Green Park Inn is said to be haunted by Laura Greene, daughter of one of the hotel’s founder. The legend says that Greene was to be wed at a church in Blowing Rock. However, Greene’s fiancĂ© failed to turn up on the wedding day, leaving her stranded and humiliated in front of all the invited guests. Distraught by his disappearance, Greene reportedly hung herself at Room 318 in Green Park Inn.

Mystery of Pickens County Courthouse Face

The face is said to be the remnants of emancipated slave Henry Wells, who according to legend, was arrested in January 1878 for robbing of a store and burning of the Pickens County Courthouse on November 16, 1876. This is the county’s second courthouse as the first one was destroyed during the American Civil War (1861 – 1865). The arrest of Wells comes after the Reconstruction era (1865-1877), a period where the Reconstruction Amendments (Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth amendments) guaranteed freedom and civil rights to the freed slaves.

Restoration Work on Haunted McPike Mansion [2021]

As of October 2021, the basement (where the famed wine cellar is housed) is used to run tours, seances and occasional events. The first and second floors are currently out of bounds to the public as renovation works are being done. The first floor will be used as a communal space for events and while rooms on the second floor will be used as a Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Pink Lady Ghost and Room 545 in Grove Park Inn, Asheville

The history of the Pink Lady and Room 545 dates back to the 1920s when a young lady fell to her death in the Palm Court. Since then, guests have reported seeing the apparition of the lady in a dense, pink smoke. Others have also to have seen a women dressed in a flowing, pink gown (or pink coat) wandering around the grounds of the resort.
